… the body has been at the mortuary for four days

Punakha police are asking anyone who knows or has information about a 36-year-old man, Shankar Gurung who lives in Punakha to call 113 or report to the nearest police station. 

Police found the man in Mochhu below Punakha hospital gate on the afternoon of May 26.  

The deceased was found lying with a cut on his head near Hotel River Valley in Gumkarmo on the night of May 18 by a passenger travelling in a taxi, who called 112 for help.

Around 9pm, the deceased was brought to the emergency ward with a fall injury, according to the emergency duty nurse. On the back of his head, he had a cut and was treated with seven stitches. 

He was discovered to be in stable condition after being kept under observation for one and a half hours. He was subsequently released after consulting with the on-call physician. 

It’s unknown where he went from the hospital or how he ended up in the Mochhu.

The deceased was identified as Shankar Gurung, 36 from hospital records. Nothing is known about the man other than his name and age.   

The body was first seen by a passerby, who was on his way for shopping, and he informed the police. 

The face of the deceased was altered beyond recognition, according to police, and he wore an army uniform with just a boot. 

Punakha police have not received any missing person complaint and the body is kept in the mortuary.

No one has come forward to claim the body so far.
