Thimphu police have detained a 43-year-old man for the alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl and for the attempted rape of a 14-year-old minor. Both are his daughters from different wives.

It is alleged that the father had a sexual relationship with the 18-year-old daughter for several years and attempted to rape the 14-year-old daughter.

Police found that the elder daughter had confided in a friend at school and the friend had advised her to share the incident with the school counsellor.

The counsellor reported the situation to the Pema Secretariat, after which the case was handed over to the police.

Police are currently investigating the case.
