Tsamang gewog nominates the lone woman candidate

The incumbent National Council member from Mongar, Sonam Wangchuk, will represent the gewog in the upcoming NC elections after the people nominated him at the gewog zomdu yesterday.

He secured 382 votes while his opponent, Tenzin Wangchuk, 39, secured 238 votes.

Sonam Wangchuk, 30, is from Yoekhar chiwog while Tenzin Wangchuk, 39, is from Pelshub chiwog. He said people of Ngatshang nominated him based on his work performance in the last five years. “I will continue to serve if elected for the second term,” he said.

Of the 620 voters who came to vote, 287 were male and 333 were female.

A voter, Tshering Choezom, 84, came all the way from Domlum village to cast her vote.  Sangay Om, 45, travelled from Trashigang to cast her vote. The mother of two said it is important to nominate an experienced and capable person from the gewog.

In Tsamang gewog, Sonam Pelzom, 32, was nominated as the candidate after she secured 335 yes votes and 40 no votes.

She is the lone woman candidate among the 17 aspirants who have declared their intent to contest in the NC elections.

Sherimuhung gewog zomdu will be held today and the result will be declared tomorrow. There are three candidates from the gewog.
