A 31-year-old man died on impact while eight others were injured when the bolero they were travelling in veered off the road at Namling, Mongar on the night of June 15.

The accident occurred around 9:30pm when the men were on their way to Thrumshingla to work at a choeten construction.

Of the eight injured, who were admitted in the Mongar referral hospital, one is in critical condition and was referred to Guwahati on June 15.

The rest are in stable condition and are expected to be discharged today after examination.

Mongar police said the vehicle fell 300ms below the road.

Police said that after receiving the information, Gyalpoizhing police reached the site around 10:30pm. “It took almost five hours for the police and other volunteers to recover the body and injured men to the highway,” a source said.

A police official said that the caused of the incident could be the foggy weather.

Sources in Mongar said six men are from Zunglen village of Drepong gewog, one from Atola village of Thangrong gewog and one from Chaskhar.

Mongar dzongkhag kidu officer handed over His Majesty’s semso of Nu10,000 each to deceased’s family and the Gyaltshab’s Office lead by Zimpoen Wogma served breakfast and lunch to the victims’ families at the regional referral hospital.

Meanwhile, the deceased, who is from Zunglen is survived by his wife and a child from his first wife, who died a few years ago.
