De-suups and police found a 10-year-old monk of Phajoding monastery and the body of his six-year-old brother on the morning of February 26 below the Phajoding-Pumola trail.
While it is not known when the monks went missing, it was learnt Phajoding Shedra officials called De-Suung office for help at 9:16pm on February 25 to help find the two monks.
Two police and 24 de-suups started the search and rescue operation at 10pm that night, dividing into two teams, combing areas from the Phajoding base and Sangaygang.
The search teams reached the shedra at around 4am on February 26, but could not find the boys.
The search continued at 6am that day and when they found the monks, the six-year-old monk was dead.
De-Suung’s chief planning officer, Tandin Dorji, said that the body of the six-year-old monk was handed over to his parents. “The elder brother was admitted to the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital. He was also severely affected by the cold weather. His skin had turned pale.”
Phajoding Shedra is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level.
