For its focus on the future of football and laying an appropriate foundation, Paro FC was recognised as the best grassroots development club on November 11.

Since the inception of Paro FC in 2018, the club has received grassroots awards twice from the Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) the last one being in 2021.

Paro FC today stands as one of the top clubs in the country.

Ambassador of Kuwait to Bhutan, Fadel Haider Saud Alhasan and  President of BFF Ugen Tsechup attended the award ceremony.

This year, Paro FC won the award in all six categories: best grassroots club; grassroots football project of the year; grassroots football leader of the year; grassroots football volunteer of the year; grassroots football parent of the year; and grassroots football coach of the year.

The club’s grassroots football project of the year called “hope in the valley” is underway. The club is building a well-equipped football pitch and other infrastructure at Ramtokto, Thimphu.  The project began seven months ago and it is set to complete by February next year.

The project is intended to replicate its current grassroots programmes in Thimphu.

Paro FC’s grassroots football leader of the year is its President Karma Jigme. The Grassroots Football coach of the year is Gopal Rai. The Grassroots football parent award was won by Gyembo for motivating the child.

Paro FC’s President Karma Jigme said, ‘I’m excited about the future because we’ve had such a great past. The people who have helped us along the way saw what we were all about.”

In 2019, Paro FC was awarded by the Asian Football Confederation for grassroots football development.

Paro FC’s Head Coach Puspalal Sharma said the club was motivated by the awards. “Since its inception, the club has had a goal to develop football in the country. We have been trying our best so far and we will continue to do so.”

He said that besides BFF, each club has the responsibility to promote football in the country and produce quality players.

Today, Paro FC has engaged 257 youth in grassroots, youth and senior categories. The club has 22 staff.
