In the Sombaykha constituency, Tshering Tobgay, the president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), secured an impressive 89.3 percent of the votes in the general elections, accumulating a total of 2,337 votes. This comprised 1,596 votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and 741 from postal ballots.

During the general elections, the president witnessed a surge of 204 additional votes compared to the primary rounds, encompassing 21 postal ballots and 183 EVM votes. In the primary elections, PDP had garnered a total of 2,133 votes, with 1,413 from EVM and 720 postal ballots.

PDP outperformed the three other parties in both EVM and postal ballot votes, as the combined total for the three parties was 498 votes in EVM and 147 votes in postal ballots during the primary elections.

In Sombaykha, the Bhutan Tendrel Party (BTP) candidate, Sonam Peljore, secured a total of 278 votes in the general elections, with 64 votes from postal ballots and 214 from EVM, equating to 10.6 percent of the votes. Notably, he was a former Druk Phuensum Tshogpa candidate who joined BTP during the general election.

Moving to the Bji-Katsho-Eusu constituency, the PDP candidate Lhendup Wangdi gathered a total of 1,804 votes, including 1,367 from EVM and 437 from postal ballots, securing 60.7 percent of the votes. This represented an increase of 171 votes compared to the primary elections, with 205 votes from EVM and a decrease of 34 voters in postal ballots.

The data suggests that 24 percent of the votes from the other three parties went to Lhendup Wangdi. Notably, he has served as an Assistant Lecturer for three years in Gedu College and has been running a business in Haa for eight years.

During the primary rounds, PDP had garnered the highest votes in Bji-Katsho-Eusu, totaling 1,633 votes, including 1,162 from EVM and 471 from postal ballots. This represented an increase of 171 votes compared to the primary round.

PDP outperformed the other three parties in both EVM and postal ballot votes, as the combined total for the three parties were 1,040 in EVM and 276 votes in postal ballots during the primary elections.

In the same constituency, the BTP candidate Tshering Dorji secured second position in the primary elections with 626 total votes, including 498 from EVM and 128 from postal ballots. 

In the general elections, Tshering Dorji accumulated a total of 1,166 votes, with 855 votes from EVM and 311 votes from postal ballots. Notably, he gained an additional 540 total votes during the general elections.

Expressing his gratitude, Lhendup Wangdi said, “I feel deeply humbled with the trust and confidence reposed in me by the people of my constituency.” He expressed determination to fulfill the aspirations of the people with the support of his party.

Tshering Dorji acknowledged the will of the people and recognized the need for more coordinators at the grassroots level and a focus on vote-seeking strategies in future campaigns.
