Entering the central region following his campaign in the east, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Tshering Tobgay during a campaign in Bumthang pledged to establish an auction yard in the region to help farmers sell their agricultural products.

Tshering Tobgay addressed market challenges due to limited auction yards in the country.

“Taking fruits and vegetables to Phuentsholing takes time and costs a huge amount.”

 If PDP wins, he affirmed bringing buyers to Bumthang instead of farmers traveling to existing auction yards, focusing on a need to change the current business approach.

Highlighting the quality of Bhutanese potatoes and apples, the president suggested potential markets in Thailand and Singapore based on feedback from these countries.

Explaining the youth-operated construction company pledge, he stressed government support to the youths.

“We will give special loan support and give construction projects on a priority basis,” he added.

Tshering Tobgay assured support for the Wobthang Organic Wonders (WOW) project initiated by former opposition leader Pema Gyamtsho (PhD), assuring government assistance for sustainability. Commending the former Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering and the opposition leader for the idea, he acknowledged WOW’s sustainability challenges and expressed intent to explore suitable crops.

He said that the government would consult relevant experts and explore suitable crops and fruits on the farm.

Regarding the development, he said that the area would be developed into a settlement, all through the government’s support to the youths.

Addressing Chamkhar Throm development delays, Tshering Tobgay promised consultation with experts and the former opposition leader on the town’s unique design if PDP wins. 

The pledge to upgrade the domestic airport to an international airport, aimed at boosting tourism and services, was also reiterated.

The party pledges to upgrade the airport and bring in more tourists to the central regions.

Bumthang has two constituencies and PDP led the primary election, sweeping both constituencies.

Completing his campaign in 18 dzongkhags to date, the president will meet the residents of Trongsa Today.
