The 16-day  Lhamoi Drubchhen, which is being conducted by the monks of Zhung Dratshang, will conclude tomorrow. The monks perform Zhanag Cham (Black Hat dance) every day while conducting the sacred ceremony  in the  Dukhang (congregation hall) of Trashichhodzong.  The Lham Tsom dance, which is the highlight of the annual Drubchhen, will be performed in the courtyard of Tashichhodzong on September 30. The sacred ceremony, dedicated to appease the protecting deity Pelden Lhamo or the goddess Mahakali, was instituted between 1705 and 1709 by Kuenga Gyaltshen, the first reincarnation of Jampel Dorji, son of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.  According to legend, Pelden Lhamo appeared before him and performed the dances while he was meditating. Based on these dances, Kuenga Gyeltshen initiated the ceremony.
