Druk Nyo Foundation donated five power tillers to five groups of vegetable farmers in Mongar gewog in Mongar yesterday as part of its ongoing project on improving food security for farmers in the gewog. The project aims to promote sustainable agriculture practices with farm mechanisation in partnership with ASIA, an international non-government organisation based in Italy with fund support from the Province of Bolzano, Italy. The farmers’ groups are expected to use a total of 20 acres of their lands in the production of different varieties of essential vegetables to reduce imports.  The groups have been trained in the maintenance and operation of the machines and will also receive further assistance with farm tools, seeds and business plans.
