A selpon to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Dophu was awarded the National Order of Merit (Gold) in recognition of his distinguished services to the nation through his loyalty and dedication in service of His Majesty.

“It is an unexpected moment for me,” 86-year-old Dophu said. “I have served with deep respect and unwavering loyalty to His Majesties.”

He is deeply grateful and humbled by this recognition. “It is an honour to be part of this celebration, and I am very happy.”

Dophu commits to continue serving His Majesty The King and the Royal Family as long as his senses would allow.

Dophu fondly known as Ata Dophu, is from Ngatshang in Mongar, and holds the esteemed position of Seolpon for His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan. 

He started his career as a Boe Garp, succeeding his father at the court of His Majesty the Second Druk Gyalpo, where he served for two years. 

After seven years of study in Dzongkha and religious studies, he joined Bhutan’s Military Training, completing it at Tenchholing in Wangdue Phodrang. He went on to serve His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo and become Selpon to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo when His Majesty was seven years old. 

With over 55 years of dedicated service, Ata Dophu has been an unwavering figure in His Majesty’s service, and continues to serve His Majesty tirelessly and with utmost loyalty and dedication.
