… second leg of the league started yesterday

One of the underdogs at the beginning of the tournament, reigns the Women’s National League without losing a game.

When the league began in August, the favourites were Thimphu Women’s FC, Transport United Ladies FC, and the Gelephu Academy Girls considering their past records.

RTC Women’s FC has acquired 13 points from their five appearances. The team won four matches and drew one with a huge goal advantage of 18 goals.

RTC players and officials attributed their success to hard work, robust training, and strong team spirit.  They are determined to continue with the same performance in the five remaining matches.

Gelephu Academy Girls are in second place with 11 points followed by Thimphu Women’s FC, and Ugyen Academy Women’s FC with seven points each.

The tournament has six teams: Ugyen Academy Women’s FC, RTC Women’s FC, Samtse Women’s FC, Thimphu Women’s FC, Gelephu Academy Girls, and Transport United Ladies FC.

The top six teams were selected from the Bhutan Women’s National League Qualifier 2023.

In the first match of the second leg yesterday, Transport United Ladies won against Samtse Women’s FC 3-1 in Samtse. It is the second win for Transport.  However, the team is facing in relegation with five points.

Despite playing an away match, Transport dominated the ball possession. The team celebrated an early lead through Ugyen Choden in just three minutes into the game. Zangmo doubled the score three minutes later.

Samtse pulled back one in the 41st minute through Pema Yangchen. The first half concluded with a 2-1 for Transport.

Samtse came back stronger in the second half. However, the visitor’s Thinley Zangmo added one more in the 78th minute to end the game 3-1.

Transport’s Coach Karma Choden said, “The opponents played well, especially in the second half.”

She said that the team aims to end the season in the top three. “We will try our best.”

Thimphu Women’s FC will face Transport United Ladies on November 3 at the Changlimithang Stadium.
