Cricket: Sarpang beat Paro to win the women’s dzongkhag cricket championship 2016-2017 on January 2.
Teams from Thimphu, Wangdue, Punakha, Paro and Sarpang took part in the tournament.
The cricket tournament started on December 28 last year and was played at Sarpang higher secondary school.
Bhutan Cricket Council Board’s national coach Damber S Gurung said that they are going to select 20 women for a trial camp.
“Fourteen women will be selected through the trial camp and the selected ones will represent Bhutan in upcoming International matches,” he said. The head coach added that the team will comprise of office goers, students, and other youth.
“We have eight cricket national players and as they are the experienced ones we divided them amongst the five dzongkhag teams as lead players,” he said.
The cricket championship is an annual event organized by the Bhutan Cricket Council Board.
