A shop at Shekpashing in Orong gewog, Samdrupjongkhar was burgled as the shop owner was in the isolation centre after testing Covid-19 positive recently.

The shop owner, Jamyang Gyeltshen, 36, said that he and his wife tested Covid-19 positive on January 28 and were in the isolation centre in Samdrupjongkhar for about two weeks.

He said they returned home on February 7 after recovering.

Jamyang Gyeltshen said that he went to the shop, which is attached to their house, the next day to fetch cellular vouchers but found them missing. “I also realised that some cash from the cash box was missing too.”

He informed the chiwog tshogpa, and the gewog administration reported it to the police yesterday.

The miscreants have stolen two bundles of mobile vouchers and about Nu 5,000 in cash. “I don’t know what else was stolen,” Jamyang Gyeltshen said, adding that it left his family in shock.

His neighbours were also taken to quarantine as they were the primary contacts. “If concerned authorities could enhance security at the gewog level, it’d help prevent such mishaps.”
