The body of a 16-year-old girl, who jumped into Sunkosh river in Lhamoidzingkha on July 8, was recovered in India on July 10.

Although no missing reports were filed, officials on border duty saw a body in the river and informed police, who then alerted their counterparts in India.

A source said that they initially thought it could be an official on border duty. “But we informed local government officials and officials at points of entry to report any missing person in their communities.

He said people were then deployed to search for the body.

Sources in Lhamoidzingkha said the girl, who was a class VI student, and her father returned from the school after attending a counselling session, when she directly went and jumped into the river.

Meanwhile, the body was handed over to the parents.
