Seven undergraduate scholarship students were recognised by the Department of Adult and Higher Education (DAHE), Ministry of Education, for excellence and recognition at universities in Bangladesh and India.

At the felicitation ceremony yesterday, Education Minister Jai Bir Rai, felicitated the students with Tashi Khadar.

DAHE’s director general, Kesang Choden Dorji, said that the primary intention of the felicitation ceremony was to encourage youngsters to give their best and prove their capabilities.

She said: “Through this ceremony, DAHE takes the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and achievement of the young Bhutanese scholars from universities across the world.”

Jamyang Seldon, Passang Dorji, and Dhan Maya Rai graduated from the Amity University, India in 2019.

Jamyang Seldon and Passang Dorji were sent to pursue Bachelor in Statistics. Both the students received the gold medal for outstanding academic performance. They are working as the statistical officer in the National Statistical Bureau, Thimphu.

Jamyang Seldon said that in order to achieve excellence in academics one should be dedicated. She said that the felicitation ceremony motivated her to work harder.

Dhan Maya Rai pursued Bachelor of Technology in Food Technology. She was awarded the bronze medal for excellence in her academics. She works as an assistant post-production officer at the National Post Harvest Centre, Paro.

Dr Deki Yangdrel Tshering pursued MBBS degree at M. Abdur Rahim Medical College, Bangladesh. She was awarded the Inaugural M. Abdur Rahim Memorial Gold Medal for her academic excellence. She is currently working in Wangdue hospital.

Dawa Rinzin, Pema Dorji, and Dechen Tshomo graduated from the SRM University in Chennai, India with the gold medal for their outstanding academic performances.

Dawa Rinzin graduated in 2017 with Bachelor in Medical Imaging Technology. He works as a Radio Technologist in the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital (JDWNRH), Thimphu.

Pema Dorji pursued Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and Catering Technology and graduated in 2018.

“I am working as an administrative officer at the Royal Insurance Corporation of Bhutan, Thimphu. This ceremony inspired me to serve the nation with utmost dedication. Recognising achievements through programmes like this would encourage many students to perform greatly,” Pema Dorji said.

Dechen Tshomo went to pursue Bachelor in Occupational Therapy. She graduated in 2019. Currently, she works at JDWNRH as an occupational therapist.

Of the 723 ex-countries scholarship students, 605 students have returned home.

The felicitation ceremony started in 2018. About 20 students have been recognised by the DAHE so far.
