The people of Trashigang voted for Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) and Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) yesterday.
DPT won in all the five constituencies in the dzongkhag. The party also secured the highest votes in both EVM and postal ballots in Bartsham-Shongphu, Radhi-Sakteng, and Wamrong.
DPT secured the highest (1,653) EVM votes from Bartsham-Shongphu constituency.
The party secured a total of 2,741 in Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong constituency followed by DNT with 2,350 votes. PDP secured 1,941 votes and Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) 450.
In Bartsham-Shongphu constituency, DPT secured 3,377 votes. DNT and PDP secured 2,404 and 1,088 votes respectively, followed by BKP with 382.
DPT took over Thrimshing constituency with 1,712 votes despite falling behind PDP on the EVM votes and DNT on the postal ballots. PDP came second with 1,523 votes, followed by DNT with 1,431 votes. BKP got 277 votes.
With 2,083 votes, DPT topped both the EVM (933) and postal ballots (1,150) in Wamrong constituency. DNT came second with 1,625 votes, followed by PDP with 1,130 votes, and BKP with 502 votes.
In Radhi-Sakteng constituency, it was another clean sweep for DPT. The party won both EVM and postal ballots with a total of 2,392 votes. DNT and PDP secured 2,117 and 1,320 votes respectively, followed by BKP with 729 votes.
A total of 15,436 people voted in 75 polling stations in the dzongkhag.
One of the voters, Sonam, 77, who had come to cast his vote at the Yonphula polling station said that he had voted for change. “I’m confident of my choice. I hope his party wins.”
A voter at the Rongthung polling station, Kuenzang Dema, said that she had a party of her choice when she came to vote in the morning. “My eyes became clouded as I entered inside the room. Now I’m not sure whether I pressed the right button.”
