Mongar police have arrested a 29-year old tshampa for having an alleged illicit physical relationship with a 17-year old nun last month. 

The accused and the girl were Facebook friends. They allegedly spent a night in a hotel in Mongar town on September 28. 

Mongar police arrested the accused from Bumthang and brought to the police station on September 30.

Police said the accused confessed to the crime and told the police that the sex was consensual. 

The accused is a tshampa from Trashigang while the victim who is from Pemagatshel is a nun in one of the nunneries in Mongar. 

The victim’s father reported the case to the police. The man has been charged for a ‘rape of a child above the age of twelve.’ 

The members from both the parties approached the police station to settle it out of court. The case would be charge-sheeted to the court soon.
