Chencho Dema | Punakha
Eligible voters for the National Council (NC) election have increased in the two dzongkhags of Punakha by 12.9 percent and Gasa by 13.9 percent in 2023.
In Punakha, there are 18,788 registered voters for the NC election this year—an increase of 2,160 voters. For the Gasa, there are 2279 voters for the 2023 NC election with an increase of 279 voters.
Only 12 postal ballots have been received by Gasa for the forthcoming National Council election, and 40 for Punakha.
Punakha has five candidates for the 2023 NC election.
Lhaki Dolma, 44, from Dzomi Gewog, will contest against former PDP Kabji-Talo candidate Dophu Drukpa from Toebisa, Chencho Wangdi from Chhubu Gewog, Namgay Dorji, from Talog Gewog, and Dorji Tenzin from Shelnga-Bjimi Gewog.
Barp, Goenshari, Guma, Kabisa, Lingmukha, Toewang Gewogs, and the Khuruthang Throm did not have NC nominees.
Dorji Khandu, incumbent National Council member from Laya Gewog, and Tshering, a former RAPA employee from Khatoe Gewog, are the nominees for the NC election from Gasa.
Gasa has four gewogs: Laya, Khatoe, Khamed, and Lunana. Khamed and Lunana gewog do not have candidate.
