Jigmi Wangdi

The National Council (NC) elections this year will see five male nominees contesting to become the Wangdue’s representative in the NC.

The dhamngoi zomdus in the dzongkhag were held between February 25 and March 8 at 17 centrally located venues in the respective gewogs.

The voters of Wangdue Phodrang nominated five candidates out of eight during the dhamngoi zomdu.




Phub Dorji from Gangtey gewog, secured 341 Yes votes and 56 No votes.

From the three aspiring candidates from Ruebisa gewog, Kuenley Tshering secured 454 votes and securing the nomination as gewog’s candidate in the election.

Darkar gewog saw two aspiring candidates. Ugyen got through during the dhamngoi zomdu with 374 votes.

Karma Dorji from Kazhi gewog stood alone during the nomination and secured 257 Yes votes and 30 voted No.




A total of 356 turned up at the nomination zomdu in Bjednag gewog. Nim Gyeltshen secured 339 Yes votes and 17 No votes to secure his nomination as the gewog’s candidate.

Ruebisa gewog saw the highest turnout during the nomination zomdu with 964 people voting.

From the 16 gewogs under Wangdue dzongkhag, Phangyuel, Nyishog, Phobji, Bajo Throm, Nahi, Gase Tshogongm and Gase Tshowogm, Saephu, Dangchhu, Athang and Thedtsho gewogs did not have any nominees.




There are no female candidates from Wangdue Phodrang this year.

During the 2018 NC elections, Wangdue Phodrang had five candidates.
