Female candidates shine in the Bhutan Civil Service Examination (BCSE) 2024, topping nine out of eleven categories.
The Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) announced the results yesterday, revealing that 2,195 graduates secured the pass percentage of 50 percent, with 1,189 female and 1,006 male. This year’s pass percentage stands at 78.25 percent, a 6.3 percent increase compared to last year.
Female candidates secured top positions in various categories, including technical, health services, engineering, ICT, law, bio-science, administration, finance, and education.
Pema Dechen from Rajshahi Medical University in Bangladesh topped the technical MBBS category with 78.18 percent.
Mani Dem from Royal Thimphu College secured the top position in the health services category with 80.66 percent, while Pema Seldon from Amity Institute of GIRS in India led the engineering and statistics category with 78.88 percent.
In the ICT category, Tshering Pem from Vellore Institute of Technology in India secured the top position with 80.51 percent. Kuenga Nyinzer Lhazom from Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law topped the legal category with 72.60 percent.
Kinga Lhazom from Royal Thimphu College topped the administration services category with 67.76 percent, and Choki Yangden from Gedu College of Business Studies led the finance services category with 65.64 percent.
In the education services, Wangchuk Dema from Chandigarh University in India topped the Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) category with 68.35 percent, and Passang Dema from Paro College of Education led the B.Ed category with 73.30 percent.
Phuntsho Tenzin from the College of Natural Resources topped the bio-science category with 79.66 percent and Phub Namgay from Tango Buddhist College topped the Dzongkha category with 84.72 percent.
The RCSC recorded the highest number of registered graduates for the BCSE in the past five years, reflecting a growing interest in public service among Bhutanese youth. A total of 2, 805 graduates appeared for the main examination.
Successful candidates will be appointed in the civil service starting from January 1 next year, based on available vacancies.
The RCSC has announced 1,144 vacancies for this year, including 56 in administration services, 41 in finance services, 405 in technical services (including law), 370 in education services (B.Ed), and 272 in PGDE.
