Khengrig Namsum voters elected the lone woman candidate as their National Council yesterday.

Tshering Tshomo from Sonamthang village under Ngangla gewog secured 3,170 votes including 1,568 postal ballots and 1,602 electronic voting machine (EVM) to beat four other male candidates.

The 39 years-old from lower Kheng said that her victory was a collective merit of the people and also of the women of Khengrig-Namsum.

She said that it was not only her efforts but the collective efforts, blessings, and support of the people.

An educationist, during her campaign, said that people of Kheng trusted and believed that her pledges were realistic. “ Now, I will serve the people and the country with utmost dedication.”




For the last three consecutive years, the people of Zhemgang elected their councilor from upper Kheng. This is the first time people choose from lower Kheng and the second woman National Council member of Zhemgang.

Sonam Leki from Nangkor got 2,930 votes (1,343 on EVM and 1,587 in postal ballots).

Thinley Jamtsho from Trong obtained 2,781 votes including 1,265 in postal ballots.

Tshering Yeshi from Bjoka secured 1,367 votes, of that 662 were through postal ballots.




Samphel Dendup from Phangkhar got 1,343 votes including 567 postal ballots.

Of 6,216 registered for the postal ballots including 24 overseas, 214 were rejected, and 25 were declared invalid.

Of the 20,522 registered voters in Zhemgang, 11,591 voted including 5,942  on EVM.
