Defeating athletes from Spain and Uzbekistan, Nima Yoezer, 17, won the gold medal in shot put yesterday at the ongoing Special Olympics held in Berlin, Germany. He is an art and painting trainee at the Draktsho Vocational Training Centre for Special Children and Youth.
Bhutan also booked the final spot in women’s shot put, and 100-metre race for both men’s and women’s categories in this tournament.
Four athletes from Draktsho Vocational Training Centre for Special Children and Youth are in Germany for the tournament.
Athletes are accompanied by three officials.
The Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation that provides a year-round sports and fitness training programme to persons with intellectual disabilities globally in 172 countries.
