Starting from the academic session this year, students of pre-primary to class five of Kilikhar Central School study in temporary sheds. The staff room and meeting hall are used for class six and seven.
The matter is worse for boarding students, as there is shortage of hotels and beds. Students have to share beds. For the 132 boarding students, there are only 74 beds.
For the day students, lunch is served in temporary shed constructed recently.
The school principal, Tshering Lhundrup, said the school faced infrastructure shortage this year when they had to take in students from Chali and Tsakaling lower secondary schools. “We have constructed temporary sheds to solve the problem.”
The students from the two schools were sent to Gyalpoishing in previous years.
The principal said that they are constructing classrooms, hostels and multi-purpose hall, which they expect will be completed before the academic session starts next year.
However, there is no dining hall and football ground for the school.
