The Film Association of Bhutan (FAB) wrapped up its project promoting gender equality in the Bhutanese film industry, culminating in an inter-college competition featuring students from Royal Thimphu College (RTC), Gyalpozhing College of Information and Technology (GCIT), and Sherubtse College.

Supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, the project was designed to empower young minds, particularly women, in the creative arts.

The project combined hands-on training and advocacy efforts to tackle gender issues in the film sector. Workshops led by industry professionals provided participants with tools in storytelling, production, and advocacy, enabling them to amplify women’s contributions to Bhutan’s cinematic landscape.

The project included a short film competition, where 15 films and advocacy videos, produced by the students, were screened. These films explored a range of gender issues.

GCIT claimed the top spot with a bold and innovative film that captivated the jury with its originality and impactful narrative. Sherubtse College came in second, while RTC secured third place.

The winning teams were awarded certificates and prizes.

Speaking at the event, FAB Executive Director Tashi Dendup, said, “This project is a step forward in empowering young women and men in the creative sector. It inspires a collective effort toward a more inclusive Bhutanese film industry.”
